At the Elms we offer family planning advice including pills, coils, diaphragms, emergency contraception and referral for contraception. All our nurses are able to deal with emergency contraception and pill checks. Two of our nurses (Ruth and Paula) are specially trained to deal with all aspects of family planning. They are also happy to discuss contraception choices. Coil fits and the contraception implant Implanon are available through an appointment with our GPs at The Elms. Dr Bethan Rees is our gynaecology specialist at the Practice.

The Priory Medical Centre offers a full range of general medical services to a population whose needs are varied. Surgeries and home visits take place Monday to Friday. At other times the UC 24 Out of Hours GP Service provides cover for medical emergencies that cannot safely wait until normal working hours. UC 24 operates between the hours of 6.30pm - 8.00am Monday to Friday and 6.30pm Friday to 8.00am Monday. The doctors and attached staff work together to provide a wide spectrum of care services, incorporating: Antenatal and postnatal care Minor surgical procedures Family planning and coil-fitting service Dressing clinics Cervical smears Auxiliary nursing services Hormone replacement therapy ECG recording Chronic disease management Counselling service Well baby clinics Haematology clinic for blood tests Child health surveillance/development screening Joint injections Immunisation and vaccination Endoscopy Full provision of chronic disease management in relation to diabetes, asthma, hypertension, heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, epilepsy, stroke, obesity, thyroid disorders, atrial fibrillation, heart failure and mental health is offered. Pregnancy counselling is available from Drs Machin and McGuiness.
