The LeidenAsiaCentre is The Netherlands’ expertise centre for socially relevant and applicable knowledge on modern East-, South- and Southeast-Asia. LeidenAsiaCentre aims to raise the level of knowledge and awareness of developments in the region. LAC conducts academic research for our stakeholders in government, NGO’s and business. LAC also organizes regular public events for a wider audience, including media. LAC actively aims to expand its expertise and to use this in collaboration with a growing number of diverse societal partners. We achieve this by: • Consulting with the societal field in identifying research questions; • Conducting original academic research, taking into account the needs of partners in society; • Building and expanding our network within government, media, educational institutions, the business sector and the social midfield; • Disseminating knowledge by means of lectures, conferences, intensive training courses and publications, including web publications The LeidenAsiaCentre organizes its research projects and other activities around a number of core themes, each of which has an average duration of approximately two years. Currently, the LeidenAsiaCentre focuses on risk in uncertain times. Core themes are: ‘Agility in the Face of Change', 'The Challenge of Technological Solutions', 'New Challenges in Communication' and 'Shifting Alliances'. How are developments in Asia relevant to The Netherlands? What are possibilities of cooperation between The Netherlands and countries in the region? Our research will contribute to strengthening and improving the relations and understanding between people, organisations and governments in Asia and The Netherlands.
