Lakes Entrance is situated in the most strategic position of the very large South East trawl area of Australia, which stretches from the Victorian/South Australia border around to the Northern New South Wales and includes Tasmania. Lakes Entrance Fishermen’s Co-Op provides a full-service unloading facility to the local fishing fleet. From there, fresh seafood is distributed to local shops and restaurants and further afield to the Melbourne Seafood Centre and Sydney Fish Market. At the Co-Op seafood is processed to then be sold at the onsite fresh seafood outlet called “Off The Wharf”, as well as supplying other outlets in the local region. The Co-operative has established itself as one of the most important voices in the Australian Fishing Industry and the largest (fleet and throughput) fishing co-operatives in Australia. Through diversification, several other organisations have been formed to provide additional revenue streams as well as providing top quality investments. The overwater Off The Wharf Seafood Cafe proudly serves the best local seafood straight from the wharf - true "Trawler to Table" freshness, offering premium water views in an open, sunlit venue; making it a favourite local spot for fresh flavours and friendly service.
