Learning Engineering Virtual Institute Information

The Learning Engineering Virtual Institute (LEVI), a program of Renaissance Philanthropy, supports learning engineering leaders who develop AI-based tools that drastically improve learning in middle school grades. To do so, LEVI implements a rigorous multi-year program that develops, scales, and implements future-focused interventions. Setting high-impact goals: LEVI sets the bar high for potential grantees by asking big questions. Our team develops research-backed goal statements in the highest-need school subject areas, starting with doubling the rate of middle school math learning. Funding and planning: After a rigorous review process, LEVI grants significant sums over multi-year periods for grantees to utilize on developing learning tools. These teams develop interventions to tackle LEVI’s ambitious goals, through products that range from an AI-powered chatbot that provides personalized math tutoring to generative video technology that digitally replicates the experience of having a personal tutoring session. With the support of the LEVI program, each team develops a multi-year plan to achieve the goal, which includes deep collaboration across institutions and disciplines, and a strong ethos of building, experimenting, and improving. Building a supportive community: The LEVI program knows that real change comes through a process of continuous improvement that includes deep collaborations across disciplines and institutions. LEVI recruits and invests in a network of hubs who bring specialized knowledge, resources, and capacity to support LEVI teams in achieving measurable success.
