Die Hogwarts-Schule für Hexerei und Zauberei (Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry) ist eine der bedeutendsten Zaubererschulen der Welt. Hogwarts wurde vor etwa tausend Jahren von den zwei Hexen Rowena Ravenclaw und Helga Hufflepuff und den beiden Zauberern Godric Gryffindor und Salazar Slytherin gegründet. Nach ihnen sind auch die vier Internatshäuser der Schule benannt: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw und Slytherin. Das Motto von Hogwarts ist „Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus“. Übersetzt bedeutet dieser lateinische Satz: „Kitzle nie einen schlafenden Drachen“.
