Established in 1999 by David, Lord Puttnam CBE, the Pearson Teaching Awards recognise and celebrate excellence in education, and share professional expertise. The Awards honour outstanding teachers and teaching and highlight just how vital success in education is to the health and wealth of the UK. Every day at the Pearson Teaching Awards Trust, we hear of exceptional teachers, lecturers, headteachers and teaching assistants who help students aim high and achieve their potential, often meeting and overcoming considerable challenges along the way. The Awards offer everyone the opportunity to say “thank you” to the teacher who has helped them most. Anyone can take part, children, students, parents, grandparents and colleagues can all go online and say thank you. In return, we will send a thank you card to each and every person or team of people who is thanked. Every “thank you”, then becomes a nomination for a Teaching Award. Our "Friends" network is open to anyone wishing to support, or be associated with, the Teaching Awards. Our "Fellows" network is a private group, for winners and current judges. Access is by invitation, or via 'request to join'. We ask Fellows to join the "Friends" group too, it allows those who wish to support, or get in touch with Fellows and Friends a way of connecting to our wider network. These networks together represent an exceptional cross section of leading education professionals, and those who have a profound interest in education. The British Education Awards (BEA) is a unique, national award ceremony designed to celebrate the achievement made by the best students in Britain whom have excelled at their level of study. Students whom hope to make the finals must also excel outside of the classroom, whether it is through Entrepreneurship, Sports, Voluntary work, etc. The BEA will be open to all educational establishments that qualify for the relevant categories. The categories include: GCSE, A-Level, Vocational and Degree level. Equivalent qualifications to these levels of study are also allowed to enter in the appropriate category. Each educational establishment can nominate one student for each category, with our panel of judges deciding who will reach the finals in London.

The Global Teacher Prize serves to underline the importance of educators and the fact that, throughout the world, their efforts deserve to be recognised and celebrated. It seeks to acknowledge the impacts of the very best teachers – not only on their students but on the communities around them. Why Teachers? An inadequate education is a major factor behind the social, political, economic and health issues faced by the world today. We believe education has the power to reduce poverty, prejudice and conflict. Teachers work tirelessly to provide an education for children around the world so the status of teachers is critically important to our global future. Teacher status has a significant impact on recruitment, retention, job satisfaction and performance.
