Thomas Jefferson wrote part of the Declaration of Independence on a desk he fashioned for his lap. Nearly 200 years later, one of the founding family members of the company that produces LapGear® technology accessories created the first modern day lap desk. Consumers used the first The Original Lap Desk Company products in the ‘70s and ‘80s for crafting, eating and other table top activities, replacing TV trays from the generation before. That traditional design is at the heart of what would develop into the essential technology accessory category. In 1995, the company introduced lap desks designed specifically for computer keyboards. As laptops gained popularity, the company responded to marketplace demands by enhancing its products to work easily with laptop computers. Today LapGear™ creates essential technology accessories for media tablets, notebook computers and eReaders. In fact, the company carries more than a dozen different essential technology accessory lines as well as its traditional designs. In 2011, LapGear will introduce the LapGear Smart-e, which offers stability and comfort with a tilted top for computer tablets and eReaders. The devices can be securely stored when not in use along with chargers and accessories within a padded interior.
