Lancaster EMS, a private, nationally accredited, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. We provide primary 9-1-1 emergency medical services to over 260,000 residents in 18 municipalities. Included within our primary response districts are numerous tourist attractions, industries, businesses, colleges and universities. Lancaster EMS was formed in 1996 by several Lancaster hospitals divesting themselves of ambulance services to reduce costs. Lancaster EMS is not owned or operated by any hospital. We are governed by a 14-member board of trustees consisting of healthcare and community leaders. In addition to emergency medical care, Lancaster EMS also provides non-emergency medical transport services, EMT and Paramedic Education, public healthcare education programs, community paramedics, medical standby coverage at special events, and tactical paramedics to the Lancaster County Special Emergency Response Team. On every one of our calls, Lancaster EMS Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) and Paramedics (EMT-P) are prepared to deliver high quality, life-sustaining treatment to our community of over 260,000 within our 9-1-1 response area. We answer more than 150 requests for service each day; 59,000 requests for service in 2024. Our EMS service is indispensable to the safety of our communities.
