Lambda Sigma Honor Society Information

Lambda Sigma Honor Society, a national honor society for second-year undergraduate students, is dedicated to the purpose of fostering leadership, scholarship, fellowship and service. Our mission is to enable members to realize their fullest potential by connecting individual achievement with a life-long commitment to serving others while promoting and advancing the goals and interests of the colleges and universities they represent. In 1925 Thyrsa Amos, Dean of Women at the University of Pittsburgh, established the National Society of Cwens to give recognition to second-year undergraduate women outstanding in scholarship and leadership with a focus on “courage, restraint and valor.” In 1976, the Lambda Sigma Society supplanted the National Society of Cwens and, in keeping with its nationally progressive philosophy, began admitting second-year men into its membership. Since that time, thousands of talented first-year students have been awarded membership into the Society. As stewards of the honor society’s ideals, they have ably served their respective colleges and universities during their second year through their leadership, scholarship, and service to others.
