After finishing high school in June 2003 Guust Nieuwenhuis went to EHSAL (European College Brussels) in order to get a Master in Business Administrator, specialisation IT management. However, after 2 years he went for a more practical approach and switched to study for a Bachelor in Applied Computer Sciences (specialisation Multimedia) at EhB (Erasmushogeschool Brussel). During his study he has learned the basics and also some advanced techniques in developing and analysing, using a wide range of languages and techniques like C++, C#, Java, SQL, PHP, J2EE, .Net, XML, XSLT, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript and UML. In his specialisation different multimedia subjects and programs where covert going from Flash (Actionscript 2.0) and Director to video and audio editing (Final Cut Pro and Pro Tools) but also 3D modelling and streaming (QTSS, Flash Media Server and Helix). From September 2007 till the end of December 2007 Guust has done an internship at European Service Network (ESN) where he used both Ajax and ColdFusion technologies to develop new applications on ESN's intranet. This internship was very successful which resulted in a 90% rating given by ESN for his work. For his thesis he analysed, designed and developed a Rich Internet Application (containing a mail, agenda, contacts and timesheets application) using PHP, Zend Framework, Ajax, MooTools, MySQL and Comet. As of the first of August 2008 Guust Nieuwenhuis works as a consultant for I.R.I.S. Solutions & Experts s.a./n.v. He is detached at the European Commission, DG Secretariat-General, where he develops web applications used by the different Commission services as well as by the citizens of the European Union.
