LAET Information

Established in 1979, LAET (Laboratoire Aménagement Economie Transports - Laboratory of Transport Economics and Urban Planning) has been exploring the relationships between mobility, territories, and society for many decades. As a joint research unit bringing together the CNRS, Université Lumière Lyon 2, and ENTPE, the laboratory conducts interdisciplinary research at the intersection of economics, spatial planning, and social sciences, analysing major transformations related to mobility, infrastructure, public policy, and ongoing transitions. From everyday mobility to emerging forms of transport, from urban logistics to climate challenges, LAET produces knowledge while helping inform public action and support decision-making among territorial stakeholders. Research activities are structured around three main areas; the “Triple Ps”: → Practices and behaviours: – Modes of transport: choises and constraints – Innovations and changing practices – Inequalities → Places and territories: – Location and accessibility – New urban forms and urbanities – Vulnerability and resilience → Public policies: – Evaluation – Regulation – Fabric A History Shaped by the Evolution of Mobility: Founded in 1979 as the Laboratory of Transport Economics (LET), the laboratory became LAET in 2015, expanding its research scope to include broader issues of spatial planning and territory. Based across the MSH Lyon Saint-Étienne and ENTPE, LAET operates within a rich scientific and institutional environment, at the heart of an ecosystem actively engaged with urban, environmental, and mobility-related challenges. LAET is one of the founding members of the World Conference on Transport Research Society (WCTRS), which was organised in Lyon in 1992.
