Created in 1996 at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), the Signal Processing Laboratory gathers a group of internationally recognized researchers, working actively in consulting services for the industry as well as in academic research and education, at both graduate level at COPPE/UFRJ and undergraduate level at Polytechnic school (Poli-UFRJ). The LPS currently congregates 2 professors and 9 associate professors all in full time, 4 post-doctoral researchers, 85 graduate and 70 undergraduate students. The activities carried out in LPS cover a variety of purposes, with main focus on education in Electrical Engineering, consulting services for the industry, and knowledge dissemination related to modern signal processing, both in Brazil and abroad. The main areas of expertise are: telecommunication systems, mobile communications, digital TV, image processing, speech and audio processing, nuclear instrumentation, signal detection and estimation, analog and digital signal processing, neural networks, adaptive systems, distributed processing, and remote access web systems. Installed in a spacious facility of 310 m2 LPS is a well equipped laboratory. Besides featuring a lecture/presentation room and an acoustic room, it possesses about 60 personal computers, all interconnected in a single LPS domain, and state-of-the-art instrumentation equipment for system development and analysis.
