LAb[au] — Laboratory for Art and Urbanism — is a Brussels-based artist group established in 1997 by Manuel Abendroth and Jérôme Decock. For nearly 30 years, LAb[au] has explored the relationships between art, language and architecture. Its practice intersects fields of research such as colour, time, signal, language and possibility, creating frameworks in which new meaning can emerge. Working through painting, writing, installations and public artworks, LAb[au] uses methods of calculating, sensing and transcoding. Its research centres on the question of representability: how systems, processes and codes shape what can be perceived, expressed and understood. From gallery exhibitions to permanent interventions in the city, LAb[au] brings artistic research into dialogue with architectural space.
