WaterAid is an international non-profit with one goal: to change the world through water. Along with decent toilets and good hygiene, a reliable supply of clean water is essential for health, dignity and a life full of opportunity. Childbirth is safer, children
get the chance to grow up healthy and strong. Families thrive and whole communities are better prepared for our changing climate and whatever the future holds.
We started out in 1981, when UK water companies created a single organisation dedicated to tackling the global water crisis.
Today we work alongside communities worldwide setting up entire systems that deliver clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene for millions. And we get the people, policies and money in place to keep these systems working – and the water flowing
for good. So that people have safe, reliable services that last.
Our work with communities, partners, allies and supporters has already meant millions of people can shape their own future with
dignity and confidence.
To drive lasting change on a global scale and faster than ever, we get others to step up and play their part:
- Partnering with communities to build systems that work for them.
- Connecting policy makers, experts, local partners and communities.
- Innovating, learning, modelling solutions and sharing good practice.
- Changing attitudes and behaviours.
- Rallying support from people and organisations around the world.
- Working with decision makers to scale up investment and accelerate progress.
Together with our partners and supporters, we are working with determination towards the day when we are no longer needed.
charity: water is a non-profit bringing clean and safe drinking water to people around the world. Since 2006, we've funded more than 186,000 water projects in 29 countries. When complete, these projects will provide clean, safe drinking water for more than 20.3 million people.
703 million people don’t have access to clean drinking water, that's one in ten of us. Diseases from dirty water kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.
The good news: there are simple solutions, from deep drilled wells to water filtration systems. With the help of 2 million+ donors and individual fundraisers, we've raised over $1B for both water and operations, forming a strong force against the water crisis. Join us!
The foundation was established in 2010 with the intention of securing the Viva con Agua organisation in the long term: The trademark rights and the associated Viva con Agua culture, philosophy, and our basic assumptions are held by the foundation.
Social change
We strive for social change, true to our vision ALL FOR WATER. We want to promote civil society development on many levels by mobilising, activating and sustainably networking. We believe that sustainable changes and developments are most effective when positive behavioural changes take place on a broad social basis.
For this reason, the Foundation supports, for example, the establishment and foundation of Viva con Agua entities in the global North and supports the existing VcA e.Vs in the Netherlands, Austria, and Switzerland. At the same time, the experience is being gathered on how the internationalisation of VcA in the global South can work. The main focus is on the local people and the universal multipliers of art, sport, and music.
Projects
Through its shareholdings in Wasser GmbH, Goldeimer GmbH, and Viva con Agua Arts, the Foundation represents the interests of the non-profit organisation together with e.V throughout the year.
