Krampade Information

Krampade® is “Based on Science, not Sweat®”. Other sports drinks are formulated to replace electrolytes lost in sweat. This assumes that all electrolytes lost in sweat provide a complete picture of electrolyte balance in the body. This does not take into account the shift in kidney function during sweating. As the body loses sodium through sweat, the kidney shifts from losing sodium to losing potassium. When potassium in muscle cells is reduced, cramping occurs. The Krampade® solution is to rapidly replace this potassium, shifting the level of potassium in the blood to help replace potassium lost. Krampade® started as an experiment by the founder, a medical school professor who suffered from cramps his entire life. Suffering through cramps as a college athlete and under many circumstances, including experiencing tetany in his hands and feet, he felt there had to be a better way to live. At 49, he embarked on an experiment using self-dosing of potassium chloride to replace potassium lost every day through kidney function. His hands stopped cramping while doing simple tasks and his cramping during competition, exercise, and everyday life simply vanished. Krampade® was born.
