Kolb is a successful manufacturer of nonionic surfactants, paper process chemicals and chemical intermediates and employs 260 people at its headquarters in Hedingen, Switzerland. The company processes natural and synthetic raw materials into high-quality products at its manufacturing facilities in Hedingen, Switzerland and Moerdijk, The Netherlands and supplies these products to a wide variety of industries through a worldwide network of distributors. Kolb products are used in the formulation of cosmetic products and are key ingredients in detergents and cleaning agents. Selected products are also used for specific applications in the pharmaceutical industry. Well-known Kolb brands include Sympatens™, Imbentin™ and Hedipin™. Kolb's paper process chemicals are used to promote the efficient manufacture of paper and cardboard worldwide. Well-known Kolb brands for applications within the paper industry include Paracum™, Natudisp™, Mucosin™, Alphasolv™ and Prolongin™. In 2007 Kolb was acquired by the Malaysian multinational KLK (Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad). KLK's core business is the production of palm oil and derivatives. Palm oil can be used to produce fatty acids and fatty alcohols amongst others, raw materials that are used by Kolb in its products.
