At Children’s Cancer Institute, we believe that a life should be long. That every child should have the chance to grow up and grow old. To plan exciting futures, chase their dreams, and fulfil their potential. But cancer cuts life short for hundreds of children every year, before they’ve even had a chance to make their mark. Here in Australia, more than 1000 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer every single year. And every week, 3 young lives will be lost to the disease. For those who survive, up to 70% will experience serious long-term health problems caused by the very treatment that saved their life. As the only independent medical research institute in Australia wholly dedicated to childhood cancer, our role is vital. Sixty years ago, cancer was nearly always a death sentence for a child. Today, thanks to medical research, more than 8 out of 10 children survive. But we won’t stop until every child can live a long, happy and healthy life. Our task won’t be easy – childhood cancer is hugely complex – but we’re confident that with the brightest brains, the latest in cutting-edge technology and worldwide collaboration, we can and we will cure every child of cancer. RMHC® New Zealand supports families when their child is in a hospital away from home. The Ronald McDonald House® and Ronald McDonald Family Room® programmes take care of the practical things in life so families can focus on their child staying in a hospital away from home. Each year we offer over 3,700 families across New Zealand accommodation, meals and support free of charge. This helps to relieve stresses like paying for a place to stay near the hospital and food during a challenging time. Our donors make it possible to provide children with better health outcomes, improve the mental well-being of their families, and ease their financial burdens by simply giving them what they need most - each other.

Starship is New Zealand’s national children’s hospital, firmly focused on accelerating world-class healthcare for all New Zealand children. There are nearly 140,000 patient visits to Starship Child Health each year including around 1000 outreach clinics where Starship clinicians offer specialist consultation and support to their peers all around New Zealand. Since 1992 the Starship Foundation has invested more than $150 million into Starship Child Health, making a real difference to New Zealand children every day. We invest in Starship’s National Air Ambulance Service, bringing children from all over New Zealand to Starship for life-saving care, latest advances in new technology and medical equipment, boosted family support and specialist staff training. In line with global best practice, we are increasing our efforts in research and innovation targeting an additional $5 million per annum.
