Kellys Candy Co. Information

Kellys Candy has been in operation for over 20 years. It started manufacturing when Cominos Sweets was purchased in 1987 by Nick Kalokerinos. Cominos Sweets had been operating for 15 years as a two man operation, making Rocky Road and a couple of other products. The company had almost no machinery, and so all products were made almost entirely by hand. Production was limited to winter months due to a lack of air-conditioning at the Greenslopes building. The company is a family run and Australian owned business using Australian raw materials as far as possible, and manufacturing all their products in Brisbane. In 1989, a much larger factory was set up in Salisbury. This has allowed for the installation of refurbished/custom built equipment, including cookers, cooling tables, guillotine, chocolate enrobing line and packaging machines. In February 2002, our HACCP based Food Quality/Safety Program was externally audited and approved. Nick Kalokerinos, the Managing Director is a mechanical engineer with experience in product development, production, equipment designs as well as managing the business on a day to day basis. The business only employs 7 to 12 people, depending on the time of year. We manufacture a range of low boil sugar based products as well as chocolate coating a range of products. We produce these products throughout the year. We also make a range of seasonal products for Christmas and Easter. A range of mainly bulk products are purchased for resale and repacking. Kellys Candy is a HACCP certified manufacturer. Our products are sold through distributors, as well as directly to larger chain stores. We also have our own retail factory outlet.
