Kate Lord Photography + Films Information

My career started in news in print and on the web, most recently as a photo editor at The Wall Street Journal and as a multimedia producer at NBC Universal. I loved the access afforded to these major organizations, but found that the people and organizations striving to make their communities stronger were often overlooked. I chose to head out on my own to find these stories and support the organizations behind them. I photographed cloistered nuns in Peru, cheered Special Olympic athletes while filming the World Games in China, and documented mother-daughter relationships in an indigenous Mayan region of Guatemala. After four years on my own, I joined the communications staff of New York University as a multimedia content producer, where I continue to find and tell stories of strength and persistence. In Fall 2018, I will begin my graduate studies at New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study. I will be earning my master's in Visual Representation and Identity in Brand Strategy. In the next few years, I aim to have a better understanding of how all media portrays people of color, women, the LGBTQ community and the differently-abled, and how I as a media producer can continue to defy stereotypes in my work. My long-term goal is to combine these studies with best marketing practices to make a business case for marketing without exploiting. Outside of photography and film, I'm a coffee fiend, a cookie monster, a board game fanatic and an intrepid wanderer!
