Kasko Cattle Company Information

Kasko Cattle Co. is a family owned custom cattle feeding and farming business. In 1979, Les Kasko began a cattle order buying business. He bought feeder cattle for customers in southern Alberta and later focused on exporting finished cattle to the U.S. In the 1990's his sons, Ryan and Greg, and son-in-law, Todd, joined the business. In 1997, the Kasko's purchased Hwy 52 Beef Producers feedlot located east of Raymond, Alberta. The feedlot was built in 1967, and over the years, its capacity has grown to 15,000 head. Since 1997 it has undergone significant renovations. A new feed mill, office, and shop were built, with all of the pens rebuilt to bring it up to the highest standards. A sprinkler system was also installed to help keep the dust to a minimum for the comfort of the cattle and people. In 2001, the Kasko family purchased Thiessen's feedlot near Coaldale, AB. This became Kasko Cattle Co. Ltd. - Home Lot. Started in the 1950s, this feedlot also underwent significant renovations to make it as efficient as possible. Today, the feedlot holds 10,000 head of cattle. With an opportunity to expand the operations close to home, the Kasko family purchased what became Kasko Cattle Co. Ltd. - North Lot in 2005. Its capacity is 5000 head. In the Spring of 2010, KCC purchased Sandy Hill, a feedlot East of Taber: AB. The feedlot started in the 1960's and currently has a capacity of 14,000 head of cattle. Today, the four Kasko Cattle Co. feedyards have a standing capacity of 44,000 head of cattle, and employ over 40 people. The operation includes mainly irrigated farmland. Barley and corn are grown for silage, and some alfalfa is raised to start new cattle on feed. The feedlot also buys silage and a significant amount of barley from southern Alberta and across the western Canadian prairies. In 2003, the Kasko family was recognized as the Calgary Stampede Farm Family of the year. Hwy 52 Beef Producer's was one of the first feedlots in Alberta on the On Farm Food Safety Program.
