Kansas City Metro Association of Permit Technicians Incorporated Information

Eirene Oliphant, a plans analyst with the City of Lenexa, had recently attended an educational institute sponsored by the Colorado Chapter of the International Code Council (ICC). It was there where she discovered the Colorado Association of Permit Technicians (CAPT). Emily Irwin, a co-worker of Eirenes, was in attendance for training as a permit technician. Eirene saw the enthusiasm in Emily and the CAPT members and saw an opportunity to help permit technicians in the Kansas City area. After getting some insight from one of the CAPT founders, Eirene came home with a mission to start a permit technician Chapter in the Kansas City area. The Kansas City Metro Association of Permit Technicians (KCMAPT) held their first meeting on May 14, 2003 at Westwood City Hall. Several building officials showed up to support the endeavor. At this meeting, they established a steering committee to oversee the development of the Chapter. In October 2003, the steering committee offered the Chapters first training, The Complete Permit Technician by Steve Burger and several local permit technicians attended it. By November 13, 2003, the steering committee felt they were prepared to move ahead with forming the Chapter and held the first meeting of KCMAPT. At this meeting, a slate of officers and board members was determined. The new officers and board members were elected into office on March 4, 2004. On February 26, 2005, the International Code Council Board of Directors recognized KCMAPT as a new ICC chapter. To promote certification, professionalism and continuous improvement for members in a professional networking atmosphere. To be contributing members of the International Code Council by assisting in the development and promotion of uniform regulations and legislation pertaining to building construction, uniformity in code interpretation, administration, and enforcement.
