The American Medical Student Association is committed to improving health care and health care delivery to all people; promoting active improvement in medical education; involving its members in the social, moral and ethical obligations of the profession of medicine; assisting in the improvement and understanding of world health problems; contributing to the welfare of medical students, premedical students, interns, residents and post-MD/DO trainees; and advancing the profession of medicine.
The Indian Medical Association of Southern California(IMASC) was founded in 1979 and is a well established non-profit, tax-exempt professional organization with physician members drawn from Orange, Riverside, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties. Our members are leaders in academic medicine, spearhead leading edge research and represent your interests at organizations like the CMA and OCMA. The IMASC organizes continuing medical education activities in the form of monthly and annual education seminars. We are also a member of the Network of Ethnic Physician Organizations, a project of California Medical Association Foundation. MASC constitutes the local chapter of the American Association of Physicians of India, the largest national organization of ethnic physicians representing more than 41,000 physicians. Our Annual Convention is attended by over 500 physician members and their guests including professionals and political dignitaries. ISome of the highlights of the Convention include a CME program "Recent Advances in Medicine",exhibits, gala banquet, and a cultural program. We honor physicians, medical students and residents with Physician of the Year Award, Distinguished Physician for Community Service Award, Outstanding Research Awards and Individual Scholarship Awards. he charitable affairs of the IMASC include health fairs, health clinics, support of organizations like Pratham and Ekal Vidyalaya, Disaster relief etc. We plan to expand our outreach programs to show our strong commitment to the community and to our members.
The association was founded in 1987 when a provisional executive committee was formed to draft the rules and bylaws of a new association. In 1989, the association filed its Articles of Incorporation with California Secretary of State under the designation of Vietnamese Physician Association of Northern California (VPANC). It has been a non-profit organization. VPANC attracts approximately 300 physician members from a variety of specialties and practice backgrounds. The membership is widely distributed geographically from Visalia, Yuba City, Bay Area to Fresno. Majority of physician members have practiced in San Jose area.
