The JX Fund supports exiled media from countries where independent journalism is no longer possible due to repression, persecution, and censorship. Since April 2022, we have supported over 95 media outlets from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Nicaragua, Russia, Syria and Ukraine through financial aid, structural support, and media development assistance. Independent media are crucial for democracy, as they hold power to account and provide vital commentary on societal issues. However, in many countries, journalists face censorship, repression, and persecution, limiting their ability to report freely. The JX Fund holds regular funding rounds to deliver various forms of support tailored to the different phases of life in exile, including quick-response grants for emergency support as well as long-term structural support. Together with our partners, we initiate projects and instigate collaborations that offer targeted responses to current challenges and crises. Founded by Reporters Without Borders, the Schöpflin Foundation, and the Rudolf Augstein Foundation, the JX Fund brings together foundations, civil society, media, and the public sector – combining flexible funding, media expertise, and international networks for fast, effective support.
