Established in Yokohama, Japan in 1927 as Victor Company of Japan, JVC became a leader in high-quality sound through the manufacture and sale of Victrola desktop phonograph players, followed by radios, Japan’s first “45/45” single-groove stereo record player, hi-fi speakers and 4-channel stereo records. JVC also played an important role in the development of television, commercializing Japan's first black-and-white and then color TVs . It also developed the two-head helical scan system, which became the foundation for videocassette recorders.
