Jun Daiko Information

Jun Daiko performs and teaches the art of taiko, or Japanese drumming. The group is based in Mountain View, CA and was founded by a gathering of friends who began to practice informally at the Mountain View Buddhist Temple. In 2007, the group adopted the name “Jun Daiko,” from the Japanese character used in the phrase "meguri ai," which means "a fortuitous, chance meeting.” Members have performed for many years in groups such as Stanford Taiko, the Kenny Endo Taiko Ensemble, Zenshin Daiko, Kona Daifukuji Taiko, San Jose Taiko, and the Midwest Buddhist Temple Taiko group. The group strives to learn and share this artform, while deepening their connection to the greater taiko community and beyond. In addition to traditional Japanese music, modern rhythms and other ethnic influences are incorporated into the Jun Daiko repertoire. In order to continue develop their skills, group members periodically participate in workshops and conferences. Since the group's debut at InStyle Palo Alto (2007), Jun Daiko has been honored by invitations to perform at the Taiko Festival-Maui (2009), Shasta Yama (2009), the International Taiko Festival (2009), and the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival (2010). The group also performs at local schools, private events, and annually at the Mountain View Buddhist Temple Obon Festival. In addition to public performances, Jun Daiko supports the taiko program at the Mountain View Buddhist Temple by teaching weekly classes for youth and adults.
