The Journal of International Service provides graduate students at the School of International Service with an opportunity to share their contributions to the field of International Relations. The Journal is committed to publishing articles that represent the academic fields studied at the School of International Service. Our purpose is to produce high quality published articles while facilitating professional development for the SIS graduate student community. We serve the SIS graduate community by providing opportunities to increase writing skills, experience the publication process, and share ideas with the wider SIS community through publishing professional articles. JIS is a team of editors, peer reviewers, and staff committed to accomplishing the mission and goal of the Journal. The senior staff consists of the Editor-in-Chief, the Director of Operations, the Creative Director, the Directive of Data & Analytics, the Director of Outreach, the Director of Resources & Training, the Editorial Director, and the Director of Submissions who all work together the further the mission of the Journal. The Journal was founded in 1992 under the name Swords and Ploughshares, a name that represented the process by which a nation transforms from a state of war to a civilization of peace. The philosophy of the School of International Service is a milestone in civilization’s journey toward an international community based on mutual understanding and respect, a philosophy that the Journal of International Service strives to promote.
