An Independent Day and Boarding school Boys and Girls aged 3-18
Life here at Scarborough College is always busy and filled with a huge range of daily activities throughout the year. While we strive for academic excellence, we believe a fulfilling education should also provide a wide range of sporting, cultural and social activities to broaden horizons and to build self-confidence.
Although the ethos of the College is firmly based upon wholesome traditional principles we have a progressive approach to education, which has led to us offering the International Baccalaureate in our Sixth Form, a qualification that is acknowledged throughout the world.
Last but not least there is our location. Our beautiful campus overlooks the spectacular North Yorkshire coast and the popular seaside town of Scarborough. Visit us and you will soon see why the College has attracted pupils from all over the UK and around the world.
Bootham is a very different kind of school.
To really understand this difference, you have to come and see it, touch it and feel it for yourself. So, rather than try to convey this difference on paper, it might be more beneficial to explain a little of the culture which nurtures this distinct and infectious difference. We have resolved to become recognised as a school pioneering the most adventurous and liberating education in the UK. We are explicitly giving a voice to our ambitions and articulating that challenge to all of our community.
Whilst Bootham School is nearly 200 years old, it never dwells on its glorious past, it doesn’t rest on its laurels, nor does it talk comfortably about its accolades. Like every new day, the School seems to constantly regenerate and renew, feeding off the energy and spirit of those who live and work here. It is a proud School, with its distinctive and pastoral Quaker ethos seeping into every fibre and brick.
We value a liberal individuality, a radical spirit of enquiry and a Quaker-led belief that there is ‘that of God - in everyone’. To speak such words is one thing, but to see these values emanating from the people here really does make you feel that Bootham is changing the way they live.
Pocklington in an inclusive, family focused and academic day and boarding school that offers incredible experiences inside and outside the classroom for children aged 0-18 years. From Little Pips Nursery (opening in September 2025) through to Sixth Form, we encourage our pupils to be resilient, resourceful learners nurturing curiosity, imagination, and independent thinking every step of the way.
Pocklington School lies 12 miles east of York in a rural setting on the edge of a vibrant, friendly market town. The 50-acre campus houses extensive facilities which includes a 300-seat theatre, £3m Art and Design Technology Centre, and indoor sports hall, conditioning room and swimming pool, plus 21-acres of grass sports pitches and two full-sized synthetic pitches.
The school was founded in 1514 and has retained its strong tradition of encouraging pupils to have the courage to take chances with learning and always remain true to themselves. We aim to instil the Pocklington Values and Virtues into all of our pupils, to engage with our families and support them in raising the Pocklingtonians of tomorrow and to be open to innovation, conscious of tradition and so secure our Foundation's future.
