The great contribution HRTS has made to its members, the entertainment industry and the community at large is well recognized. The creation of a junior membership division continues this tradition of community-building, and allows HRTS to do what no other organization ever has; to nurture those young professionals working in the industry who are not yet executives, the future of HRTS and the television, radio, new media and advertising industries. JHRTS is the Junior Membership of the Hollywood Radio and Television Society. This junior society was created by Astrid Oviedo Miano, an assistant at Artists Television Group. In August of 2000, Astrid presented the idea of a Jr. HRTS to then HRTS president, Tom Nunan. The idea was, and still is, a membership that is exclusive to junior level entertainment professionals (i.e. assistants, coordinators, managers, writers/producers etc.) from any area of the entertainment industry such as television studios, networks, agencies, production companies, and new media. Over the years, this society has been developed and run by the JHRTS Board. The board is comprised of junior level associates from all areas of the entertainment industry (studios, agencies, networks etc.). The board has worked to build the JHRTS under the following mandates: counterparts Newsmaker Luncheons, by holding speaker and panel events conducted by high profile industry leaders, most often followed by a question and answer session. These sessions afford JHRTS members a chance to expand their knowledge of the industry, while also having the opportunity to meet their peers before and after the lectures. Junior members get involved with local charity events in a diverse assortment of philanthropic causes.
