To attain its mission, the responsibilities, functions and duties of the New York State Department of Transportation include:
■Coordinating and developing comprehensive transportation policy for the State; coordinating and assisting in the development and operation of transportation facilities and services for highways, railroads, mass transit systems, ports, waterways and aviation facilities; and, formulating and keeping current a long-range, comprehensive statewide master plan for the balanced development of public and private commuter and general transportation facilities.
■Administering a public safety program for railroads and motor carriers engaged in intrastate commerce; directing state regulation of such carriers in matters of rates and service; and, providing oversight in matters relative to the safe operation of bus lines, commuter railroads and subway systems that are publicly subsidized through the Public Transportation Safety Board
The Minnesota State Fair is the region’s most iconic end-of-summer tradition. Twelve days of fun ending Labor Day, the Great Minnesota Get-Together annually welcomes nearly 2 million guests to a world-class showcase of livestock, agriculture, horse, art, talent and creative activities competitions; 1,600+ food items (including 80+ on-a-stick); 900 free entertainment shows by 100+ acts; Mighty Midway and Kidway; 1,000+ vendors; hundreds of demonstrations and exhibits for kids and adults; and more. The fair employs nearly 90 year-round full-time staff members. During the summer, about 450 seasonal staff are added. For the 12 days of the fair, approximately 2,300 people are hired to work for fair departments, and commercial exhibitors employ another 10,000.
The Minnesota State Fair is financially self-supporting and does not receive government funding. Revenue from ticket sales, percentages and fees paid by vendors, facility rental, sponsorships and other sources brings the fair to life - powering memorable experiences, world-class operations, and exceptional care of the historic fairgrounds.
