JayaDojo plays on a couple of eastern concepts: jaya — (from sanskrit जय ) conquer, victory, mastery. dōjō — (from japanese 道場) literally “place of the way”. Initially it used to refer to a place where buddhist or taoist monks conducted their rites, but later also used for martial arts, and other discipline based tradition practice spaces. We see JayaDojo as— “a place for practice towards mastery via first understanding then overcoming personal obstacles.” The JayaDojo studio spaces were located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of YogaJaya in central Tokyo. Due to Covid 19, in May 2020, JayaDojo suspended all in-person activities at the Tokyo Daikanyama location. The JayaDojo concept currently focuses on intensive cross-disciplinary study alongside its Baseworks-specific offerings as well as collaboration for artists’ residencies and seminars.
