JARVIS DOONEY Information

JARVIS DOONEY was established in 2013 by Christy Jarvis and Michael Dooney as a platform for contemporary artists working with photography, video and related media. As both founders are from Australia, the gallery predominately promotes artists associated with Australia and New Zealand to build their audiences in Europe. The gallery programme is made up of both established photographers and emerging artists with a distinct point of view who bring something unique to their chosen medium. Our first exhibition was Between Worlds from one of Australia's foremost contemporary photographic artists Polixeni Papapetrou. Since then our exhibitions have been primarily curated group shows built around a specific theme, for example Typologies, Abstraction and Performance - which gave emerging artists the opportunity to be presented with their more established contemporaries; and the curated aspect made the exhibitions more accessible to German audiences not yet familiar with the artists and their work. The group exhibition format has also allowed us to build relationships with new artists and continue to work together. The emerging artists that we have continued to collaborate with since establishing the gallery are Kate Robertson, Clare Rae, David Charles Collins, Jacqueline Ball and James Tylor. In 2017 we had the great privilege to introduce two additional established artists to our programme, renowned photo-media artist Anne Zahalka and Australia's most rigorous conceptual artist Derek Kreckler. In 2015 we participated in the inaugural Photo London art fair, under our previous name Galerie Pavlova and in 2016 we presented the work of Polixeni Papapetrou and James Tylor during the 7th European Month of Photography Berlin.
