Over time this program of peer support evolved into the recovery center that exists today. Currently, The James A. Casey House is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs as a Residential Rehabilitation and Treatment Facility. Our main function is a Drug and Alcohol Halfway House serving the recovery community. After all these years the city of Wilkes-Barre seems to be headed in the right direction. And just like the men we serve, it shows that with the right help, we can all turn our lives around. The James A. Casey House was founded in 1999 in downtown Wilkes-Barre. At the time, drug and alcohol addiction was rampant in the city center and was threatening to destroy a once vibrant commercial district. With the philosophy that those who were helping to destroy the neighborhood should help rebuild it, Jim Casey opened a safe house in the very building that once housed drug dealers and addicts. This dry rock helped individuals to take time to restart their lives. Through the help of other recovering addicts, these men were able to find jobs, develop life skills, and most importantly learn how to live clean and sober.
