School District with main offices in Davenport, Iowa. The DCSD serves students in Blue Grass, Buffalo, Davenport, and Walcott, Iowa. There are 32 schools in the district: 3 high schools, 6 intermediate schools, 17 elementary schools, and 6 locations for preschool and alternative education. The DCSD is considered an urban school district. Approximately 1,286 teachers serve approximately 15,305 students. Founded in 1858 it established one of the first publicly funded high schools in the United States, the third teachers’ training school and hired the first female superintendent in the country.

The Community Foundation of Greater Flint is a tax-exempt public charity created by and for the people of Genesee County. CFGF enables people with philanthropic interests to easily and effectively support the issues they care about - immediately or through their will. Donors can establish a charitable fund at the foundation by contributing a variety of assets. Those assets are then carefully invested by the foundation. Established in 1988 through the merger of The Flint Public Trust, founded in 1950, and the Flint Area Health Foundation, created in 1978, the resulting Community Foundation combined the strengths of these two Flint institutions to position itself for future growth and giving. Since the merger, assets have grown from $10 million to more than $182 million. Over 10,000 contributors ranging from modest to magnificent means have enabled the Community Foundation to award more than $100 million in grants to the greater Flint area from over 450 charitable funds. The Community Foundation continues to help individuals, families, businesses and nonprofit organizations achieve their charitable and financial goals by providing tools and resources that make giving easy, flexible and effective. The Battle Creek Community Foundation is a public foundation built by generous residents who have donated their time, talent and treasure to make Battle Creek a better place to live. The Foundation was founded in 1974 by Leonard White, Robert B. Miller, and Harry Davidson with a goal of creating a way for people of all means to be able to give back to their community. Over the years, the Community Foundation has received gifts from individuals, corporations and organizations. These gifts are placed in endowment funds, and these funds are then invested to generate earnings. The Community Foundation uses these earnings to distribute grants to a variety of nonprofit programs, organizations and other community-oriented charitable efforts that benefit Battle Creek, Michigan residents. Funds are also created to provide scholarships to local students for post-secondary education and training. The Foundation also provides community leadership by bringing diverse groups of individuals and organizations together to develop community-wide solutions for problems and issues. We lift up local leaders and connect community folks in endeavors that build legacies long into the future. A volunteer board of local leaders, representing the interests of the Battle Creek community, governs the Foundation’s administration and distribution of funds. The generosity of donors, the vision of our Board of Trustees, and the dedication of our many volunteers and professional staff enable the Foundation to continually respond to the changing needs of our community.
