John A. Bates (Contractors) Ltd is a family owned Private Limited Company which was founded in 1937 and became incoporated in 1955. In its early days small engineering works such as kerb and footway schemes were undertaken for local borough councils. In the late 1970's an expansion programme was undertaken with the company moving to carriageway resurfacing and reconstruction. Operating from administration headquarters in Smethwick with a further storage yard/depot also in Smethwick and a plant yard and maintenance workshop in West Bromwich. It owns it's own fleet of plant and vehicles consisting of : 3 - Metre deep cut road planing machines. 4 - Extending carriageway paving machines. 6 - Road rollers. 2 - Chipping machines. 1 - Low loader, unit & trailer. 4 - Tipper lorries. 8 - Vans Work is carried out throughout the Midlands. With a loyal & skilled workforce, the company specialises in cold planing & resurfacing of roads. Work is mainly carried out for local authorities and over the last five years we have completed maintenance and resurfacing contracts for : Birmingham City Council. Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council. Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council. Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council. We have demonstrated to all customers on numerous occasions the ability to fulfil all of their requirments in a competent and satisfactory manner. Accounts with numerous hire companies ensure that all items required on any contract will be readily available.
