Establishing The National Cyber Unit as part of Lahav, while allocating the unit with meaningful resources of the most innovative technology products, resulted in enhancing the Israel's Police ability to cope with sophisticated cybercrime and apprehend the online offenders. Whilst the District Police units react to online offences, the guideline of The National Cyber Unit is to lead the national cybercrime initiative, meaning combating cybercrime that affects the safety and wellbeing of Israeli citizens in the cyberspace. The MO of this guideline is as follows: • The Intelligence Branch – Its main task is to gather intelligence information and evidence regarding cybercrime and then, pass them over to the investigators. The branch utilizes sophisticated technology products and has high performance capabilities that assist it in illustrating the criminal cybercrime status and supply the investigators with sufficient information to start an investigation. • The Investigation Branch- It conducts overt investigations that result in obtaining evidence from the cyberspace and even from the most remote and unique technology equipment. The branch consists of certified forensic computer investigators. • Cyber co-operation with other Israeli based entities dealing with cyber, Israeli law enforcement agencies and international co-operation. • Pedophilia- Our emphasis is to identify, trace and apprehend predators who are engaged in online sexual exploitation of children and therefore dedicated one of our teams to this mission. It cooperates internationally with Interpol units. Manpower In order to develop new tactics against cybercrime and cyber countermeasures people with the following background are recruited: Technology, R&D and former Army Intelligence personnel. The unit is investing many resources in finding the required manpower and train them towards our various assignments.
