Islington Square Information

Islington Square is a new place to eat, drink and shop, situated in North Londons old postal sorting office. In the early 1900s, the General Post Office built a grand sorting office on Islingtons bustling Upper Street. A Baroque monument to the power of community and correspondence, this site became a touchstone for all of the post delivered to North London. Unbeknownst to many, this red-brick faade concealed a sprawling complex of magnificent buildings covering some 170,000 square foot. Now, Islington Square opens this area up to residents and newcomers alike, connecting the boroughs contemporary creative community to a rich architectural legacy. Islington Square is a place to discover something new; be that an independent restaurant, a concept bar or an unexpected boutique store. Long a postal sorting office, Islington Square is founded on a spirit of exchange. Now, the stories that once passed through in the form of letters and packages come to the fore once again, in a vibrant programme of workshops and events.
