EVERYONE IN THE UK SHOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO THRIVE. So we bring people together to overcome some of society’s most complex issues through the power of volunteering. We partner with communities to overcome adversity, tackling social isolation and loneliness, improving health, developing skills and opportunity and making sure young people can lead change. And because we’re a national charity, we do this at scale, sharing our expertise and building partnerships to make an even bigger impact. In 2020 we launched a new strategy – Volunteering Matters Strategy 2020. Based on the impact our volunteers and programmes have in communities across the UK, we are bringing people together through volunteering to build stronger communities so that everyone has an opportunity to thrive. Our place-based approach, which is shaped by local knowledge, energy and understanding, is designed to support people in their local communities to overcome the challenges they may face and to unlock their potential. We provide a platform for volunteers, young people, and communities to challenge existing structures and work with decision-makers to overcome barriers and inequalities. Across the Volunteering Matters family – including ProjectScotland, Get The Gen, Employee Volunteering and #iwill – we turn local knowledge and energy into action and progress, building stronger communities and a better future for all.

The Young Foundation’s mission is to develop better connected and more sustainable communities across the UK. As a UKRI accredited Independent Research Organisation, social investor and community development practitioner, we combine all our skills and expertise, to further that mission. We amplify the stories and lived experiences of people in our communities; using this as a spur to drive locally-led community action and enterprise. And we use what we learn across different communities to spot national patterns of need and opportunity. Then we work with national partners to support new ideas to tackle those shared, national challenges. Bringing together our own – and other people’s – work, we are building a shared body of evidence, tools and insight about how communities are taking action on the issues that affect them. We are experts in understanding the changing role of communities in the 21st century. We have a long track record incubating over 80 new organisations including: Which? The Open University, Language Line, Social Innovation Exchange, School for Social Entrepreneurs, Uprising and Action for Happiness. We continue to offer incubation support, plus office and back office support, to early-stage, innovative organisations that share our mission.

We are the UK’s strong voice for social enterprise, offering membership and network building for businesses with a social or environmental purpose. Social Enterprise UK is the UK’s membership body for social enterprises. We lead the world’s largest network of businesses with a social purpose who together are helping to create a fairer economy and a more sustainable future for everyone. We exists to be a strong voice for social enterprise, to evidence the difference that social enterprises are making and to demonstrate solutions and influence decision-makers to create an environment in which social enterprise can thrive. We work with mainstream businesses and public sector institutions to help them bring social enterprises into their supply chains.
