Purpose:
To empower people to improve their health and wellness
Vision:
Making Tai Chi for Health accessible to everyone for health and wellness
The institute was founded by Dr Paul Lam and his master trainers in 2009 to empower people to improve their health using the Tai Chi for Health programs. In 1997, Dr. Paul Lam, a family physician and tai chi expert, worked with a team of tai chi and medical specialists to create the Tai Chi for Arthritis program. Since then they have created a series of Tai Chi for Health programs to improve people’s wellbeing and quality of life. These programs are supported by many organizations including the Arthritis Foundation of America, Australia and Singapore; Osteoporosis Australia; Arthritis Care, UK; universities and governments from different countries.

The Tai Chi Foundation (TCF) is a member supported not-for-profit educational organization dedicated to promoting, funding and teaching programs relating to the embodiment of Tai Chi. The School of Tai Chi Chuan (STCC), as a subset of TCF, exists to continue the teaching of the Cheng Man-Ch’ing style of Tai Chi Chuan (Yang style short form) as passed down through Patrick Watson.
Our School today is composed of over 200 instructors teaching Tai Chi classes in 30 cities around the world. Each teacher follows the curriculum and team-teaching method developed by Patrick Watson. All teachers are apprentices of the school who have gone through the school’s full Tai Chi form curriculum and then entered into apprenticeship, learning to teach each level, one third at a time. We gather together once or twice a year to continue to learn from Patrick’s senior teachers, practicing Tai Chi Chuan, push hands and sword form.
As a Tai Chi teaching school, our School prepares our apprentices through intensive trainings each year. This continued study helps our apprentices maintain a consistency in method: Students can study at any of our branches and receive the same careful attention to the principles and details of the art of Cheng Man-Ch’ing ’s Yang Short Form.
