Over the past 14 years, IC has nurtured a powerful venue of visibility that goes far beyond what other newsrooms provide. Thanks to our network of fearless volunteer editors and journalists, we have covered stories for over 650 Indigenous nations while consistently examining the institutional, political, cultural, and social obstacles that challenge them. In the process, we have ● Exposed government, industry and paramilitary abuses in dozens of countries ● Helped to catalyze indigenous movements like Idle No More and NoDAPL ● Investigated the environmentally destructive practices of more than six dozen mining, oil, logging, coal and hydro dam companies ● Called attention to hundreds of cultural, judicial and territorial conflicts that fell through the cracks. Understanding the depths of marginalization and misrepresentation that Indigenous peoples face in the media, we have also gone to great lengths to educate the public about indigenous cultures, histories, and world views while shedding light on indigenous-led movements, campaigns and programs that aim to achieve more inclusive, culturally-appropriate and ecologically responsible policies and practices throughout every sector of society.
