Institute of Earth Science and Engineering Information

The Institute of Earth Science and Engineering is a research and development organisation at The University of Auckland, New Zealand, with affiliation to the NZ Geothermal Institute. We specialise in geothermal exploration, resource assesment, mircoseismic monitoring, custom borehole instrumentation and geothermal short course training. Our research interests lie in the study of the earth's active tectonic and hydrothermal systems. We are focused on developing new understanding of such systems, and new data gathering and modelling approaches to achieve this objective. We have developed several types of borehole geophysical instruments to aid in these studies. Currently, in large part, our knowledge and technology innovations are applied to geothermal development and volcanic and earthquake hazards. Our work is also relevant to water and fossil-fuel resources. We seek to work on both public and private concerns in partnership with industry, government, and other universities, to deliver project-relevant research, professional training and commerical services.
