The CAP is a 501(c)(6) membership organization recognized as the gold standard in laboratory accreditation, with nearly 8,000 laboratories worldwide accredited by the CAP. The majority of the CAP's roughly 600 employees are based at the organization's headquarters in suburban Chicago (Northfield, Illinois), with around 30 staff members working at the Washington, DC, satellite office.
