Founded in 2009 by award-winning vfx pioneer Grant Boucher, inner-D’s first delivered feature film stereoscopic conversion was PIRANHA 3D for The Weinstein Company. inner-D delivered almost 100 minutes of footage, save a handful of vfx/cgi specific sequences. After initially winning a head-to-head competition with the major stereoscopic conversion companies, Grant soon made the decision to take inner-D’s initial conversion process to a whole new level. Most stereoscopic movies (conversion or CGI rendered) have unrealistic senses of scale and are often unnaturally distorted, over-separated, and/or artificially sharp or soft-edged. It’s no wonder audiences are getting headaches – their brains just can’t make sense of these images! But since people see everything around them every day in 3d without getting headaches, it became clear that something was dreadfully wrong with existing approaches based on 1950’s era paradigms. There had to be a better way. Following weeks of research by inner-D’s stereoscopic team, inner-D went back to the drawing board and created the reali-D stereoscopic conversion process. reali-D was designed from the ground up to represent a realistic 3d universe that is comfortable to watch for long periods of time and thus becomes thoroughly immersive to audiences.
