Independent specialises in the development, financing, production, and distribution of independent feature films. Led by CEO Luc Roeg, who has over twenty years’ experience in the film business, Independent has a team of highly motivated and experienced professionals with expertise in project development, production, structured finance, distribution, sales and marketing. Independent’s latest production is THE FALLING by upcoming British filmmaker Carol Morley. THE FALLING was released in the UK end of April to critical acclaim, with US and Australian releases following over the summer. Previously, Independent produced John Banville’s Booker Prize winning novel THE SEA which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival 2013. In 2011, Independent produced the celebrated adaptation of Lionel Shriver’s novel WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN, directed by Lynne Ramsay, and world premiered it in competition at the Cannes Film Festival. Independent also acquires third party rights to manage through its sales and distribution divisions. Latest titles include Jim Jarmusch’s documentary on IGGY POP AND THE STOOGES, London set chase-thriller LEVEL UP, directed by newcomer Adam Randall and written by Gary Young (HARRY BROWN, THE TOURNAMENT) and supernatural thriller I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER, based on the bestseller by Dan Wells and directed by Billy O’Brien. Previously, Independent represented David Mackenzie’s STARRED UP, released by Fox Searchlight in the UK, WHAT WE DID ON OUR HOLIDAY, released by Lionsgate, and HYENA by Gerard Johnson, which premiered at Toronto 2014.
