MAPS, a private, nonprofit community-based agency, has been providing culturally and linguistically competent health and social services to Portuguese speakers in Massachusetts since 1970. MAPS' mission is to improve the lives of Portuguese-speaking individuals and families from Massachusetts and help them become contributing, active participants in American society while maintaining strong ethnic identity and a sense of community. MAPS works with and for the Brazilian, Cabo Verdean, Portuguese and other Portuguese-speaking communities to increase access and remove barriers to health, education and social services through direct services, advocacy, leadership and community development.Current services include: Immigrant Integration Services, providing advocacy, information, case management and referrals on daily life issues such as Citizenship Assistance, affordable housing access, jobs, benefits screening and applications, health insurance enrollment and retention help, and much more; Child & Family Clinical Services for abused, neglected and at-risk youth and their families--including In-Home Therapy and services for families with MassHealth coverage, and Child and Family Stabilization for families referred by the MA Dept. of Children & Families; Court-referred intervention services—an Intimate Partner Abuse Educational Program for men, and an Impaired Driver Education Program; Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Services, providing community outreach, education, advocacy, assistance, support and case management; Elder Services with Case Management and a Cambridge Senior Center; HIV/STI Services including prevention, screening, case management and referrals; and free short-term remote Mental Health Counseling.
