IJCLab Information

Gathering around 800 people, IJCLab – the Irène Joliot-Curie Laboratory for the Physics of the Two Infinities (Laboratoire de Physique des 2 Infinis Irène Joliot-Curie) – is a joint research unit of CNRS, Université Paris-Saclay and Université Paris Cité, located on the Orsay campus. The identity of IJCLab is centered on the "physics of the two infinities" and their applications, with a wealth of subjects related to these domains of physics. The scientific activities of IJCLab are organised around seven scientific departments: Astroparticles, Astrophysics and Cosmology; Accelerator Physics; High-Energy Physics; Nuclear Physics; Theoretical Physics; Energy and Environment; and Health Physics. They rely on an Engineering department organised into four technical departments covering electronics, IT and computing, instrumentation and mechanical engineering, with a unique potential for designing, developing and operating the instruments required to take on the scientific challenges of the coming decades. The presence of research infrastructures and technological platforms is another essential feature of IJCLab. This laboratory has the ability, the vocation and the ambition to make a global impact on a wide range of scientific and technical topics by leading large-scale projects at national and international levels. It also encourages and supports projects on smaller scales and shorter cycles which may arise from recent scientific developments and/or technical breakthroughs. Finally, this laboratory is situated at the heart of the Paris-Saclay scientific cluster, recognised worldwide. This puts IJCLab in an exceptionally favourable environment for teaching, training, knowledge transfer and science outreach.
