The Indian Institute of Social Welfare & Business Management (IISWBM), Kolkata was established through a resolution adopted by the Syndicate of the University of Calcutta on April 25, 1953. Visionary Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, was the first President of the Board of Governors and Prof D.K Sanyal was the first Director of the Institute. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, laid the foundation stone of IISWBM - India's first institute to introduce a program on management education.
