Sixty bank employees from across Merseyside are getting involved by volunteering in IFB 2014, which is coming to Liverpool next week. The sixty volunteers attended a training day at the Santander head office in Bootle last week and received accredited ambassador training from WorldHost, the same group that trained the volunteers during London 2012. During the session, they got all the background on IFB 2014 and received hints and tips about being an ambassador for the Liverpool City region. The Santander volunteers will be volunteering throughout the entire festival, right up to the 'giant' finale; the World War One commemoration event; which is taking place on 25-27 July 2014. There has been an active volunteer community in Liverpool for many years, and since 2008, a group of around 150 volunteers called City Stars, have been supporting volunteering opportunities throughout the city. The Santander volunteers have become a part of the City Stars network, which is a joint venture between Liverpool ONE and Liverpool City Council. Jennifer Scardino, Director of Corporate Affairs and Marketing, Santander UK, said: "We are proud to be an official partner of IFB 2014 and we are delighted to have been able to extend this fantastic volunteering opportunity and the accredited training to our staff all across the region." Max Steinberg, Chair of IFB 2014, said: "We are always looking to extend our network of volunteers, so we were over the moon when Santander offered to recruit 60 new City Star volunteers to take part in the IFB2014. The training day was a resounding success and all the volunteers are looking forward to getting started on the 9th June!" Santander is an official partner for IFB 2014 as part of its on-going commitment to small and medium businesses in the UK. This is the first International Festival for Business and will be on a huge scale in Liverpool this summer. It will be the biggest business event in the UK since the Festival of Britain in 1951, which saw more than 10 million visitors to the country over the five months. IFB 2014 is a showcase for great British industries and sectors, one that will connect UK businesses to new markets, new products and new partners. Comprising of more than 200 events, it is an opportunity for businesses to network with their counterparts from across the globe and explore opportunities otherwise unavailable to them.
