Based in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Ideal Comics was founded by writers Mathew D. Rhys and Chris Lawton. The friends and long time collaborators found that a number of their individual projects were similarly themed. They chose to create a single universe, which was called Escher's World. After years of trying to break into the mainstream and numerous failed attempts to sell a major company on the Universe, Reese and Lawton decided the best choice for their universe was self-publishing.
