The Idaho Youth ChalleNGe Academy (IDYCA) is a volunteer program for 15.5-to-18 year old teens that are at risk of dropping out or that have already dropped out of high school. The program is open to all students, without regard to race, sex, religious affiliation or household income. The goal of the program is to give youth a second chance to become responsible and productive citizens by helping them improve their life skills, education levels, and employment potential. The program incorporates a highly structured format, with an emphasis on student discipline and personal responsibility to provide a positive, safe, and secure learning environment. There are currently 40 Youth Challenge programs operating in 28 states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. The program is FREE for students residing in the state of Idaho. IDYCA holds two residential classes a year, starting in January and July. During the 5-1/2 month residential phase, youth have the opportunity to earn 14 academic credits and earn their high school diploma, return to their home school, or earn a GED. Following successful completion of the residential phase, cadets return to their Idaho hometowns and pursue the goals they have set with the guidance and friendship of an adult volunteer mentor. The Core Components of the Academy include: - Academic Excellence - Leadership and Followership - Life Coping Skills - Job Skills - Service to the Community - Responsible Citizenship - Physical Fitness - Health and Hygiene IMD Required Terms of Participation/Posting Guidelines: "While this is an open forum, please keep your comments and posts appropriate.
