The ICONS Project at the University of Maryland is an experiential learning program with 30 years experience using customized web-based tools to support educational simulations and simulation-based training. We design online and face-to-face role play simulations for educators, professionals, and policy makers. Our mission is to advance learning by designing and delivering dynamic role-play simulations for students, professionals, and policy makers worldwide. We have three branches dedicated to serving distinct audiences: 1. EDUCATION: Our interactive online simulations immerse participants in the roles of decision-makers tasked with resolving contentious issues. ICONS simulation exercises feature engaging content, peer collaboration tools, and active learning through our powerful online simulation interface, ICONSnet. 2. PROFESSIONAL TRAINING: Our skills-based training programs incorporate multi-player, real-time simulation exercises as a way for individuals, teams, and organizations to increase effectiveness. We've trained thousands of professionals -- from seasoned executives to emerging team leaders. 3. RESEARCH AND POLICY: Our ICONSnet platform is ideal for social science research endeavors. The participant-driven nature of ICONS simulations creates a dynamic forum in which policy makers can test the implications of proposed decisions and gain critical insight to guide their real-world policy endeavors.
